Mayore Horton assembled the meeting at y:~5 P. Df. Council members present were
Don Lyon, Jim Moore, Bob Corcoran, John J. Biondi Jr and H. L. Hatton, the minutes
from the previous meetings were read and approved.
Mr. Hollif field appeared before the council and presented a sworn statment signed by
Mr. Ayter, stating Mayor Horton had given him permission to put ~ trailer on his pr
property. on a temporarily basis. Mr. Ayter was present and testified he was present
at the time the Mayor stated this to Hollifield. Mr. Hollifield also had a petition
in his possession to remover the Mayor & Secretary from office. and to reinstate
Bennett as Chief .of Police. Hollifield read thte contents of the petition and his
wife read the names of the parties that signed the petition. Mayor Horton said he
he did not have enough names of qualified voters on the petition to warrant his
resigination. Don Lyon asked why Mrs. Boyd was involved, Hollifield stated she gave
people short answers and interferred with the police dept. After much discussion
regarding the petition Mr. Hatton stated he did not recogonize most of the names
and he would have to get their names and address of the parties that signed the
petition. The wiitten petition was not left with the Council.
Mr. Hollifield stated he wanted his money for the bill for the work he did last Feb.
in the amount of 88.50 which he presented to the City Secretary Jan. 2, 1968, He also
asked for the refund in the warrant and fines in the amount of $65.00 After much
discussion the Council determined the $65.00 was for the fine and warrant for not
getting permitfor the trailer after he was told he would have to do so and therefore
the $65.00 was not refunable. Hollifield also stated that he wanted $100.00 for time
lost from work due to the injury he sustained when he fell from the police car when
he was picked up on the warrant. Don Lyon referred him to the Insurance Company
that represents the City for a claim of this nature. After examining the statement
submitted to the City for work done and tools rented in the total amount of $88.50,
Don Lyon made motion to go ahead and pay this bi'.1. Hatton seconded the motion.
' Carried unamiously. A check was made at this time and presented to Mr. Hollifield.
Upon acceptance of the check Mr. & Mrs. Hollifield left the council meeting.
Mr. Johnson came before the council to see if his property could be annexed to the
City Limits. Mr. Johnson has a mobile home on t~~is property which he wanted to live
in, Mr. Moore suggested that he wait until the Planning Board Committee met because
mobile homes might not be allowed that area if they take it in to the City Limits.
Mr. Johnson wanted to know the date of the next meeting. Mr. Moore told him the
City Secretary would notify him of the date. Mr. Johnson decided he would wait until
after this meeting and then he would reconsider.
Jim Moore made motion to-adjourn, Hatton seconded. Meeting adjourned at 8:50 P.M.
Mayor Horton reopened the meeting at 8:55 P.M. Mr. Bennett was called before the
council to discuss the handling of warrants and his reinstatement as police chief.
There was much discussion about the warrant being served on Mr. Hollifield and how
Mr. Hollifield got his foot hung in the radio cable causing him to fall out of the
police car, and why Mr. Bennett predicted there would be trouble when he served this
warrant. Mr. Hatton said there would be no more warrants served by the police offi-
cers, but would be handled by parties outside the City Hall as they had been in the
past. Mr. Bennett said he had never dad full authority as chief. After much dis-
cussion between the Mayor, the councilmen and Mr. Bennett, it was decided that
Sennett would not be reinstated as chief. Mr. Moore stated that he thought that
this recommendation should come from Mr. Hatton since he was supervisor of police
department. Mr. Hatton made the motion that Mr. Bennett stay in capacity of patrol-
man, Mr. Corcoran seconded the motion, b1r. Bennett stated he w uld st for 3

any complaints and he voted against demoting Bennett to par.t~lman. Motion
carried 4 for, 1 against.
Bob Corcoran made motion to adjourn, John Biondi seconded. Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 10:20 P.M.
