CALL TO ORDER Mayor Brian Johnson called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. II. ROLL CALL Present: Mayor Johnson; Mayor Pro Tem Joplin, Place 5; Sandra Lee, Place 3 Absent: Rockie Gilley, Place 1; Liz Carrington, Place 2; Kelly Turner, Place 4. Staff: City Manager George Campbell and City Secretary and Communications Coordinator Leslie Galloway Mayor Johnson noted that a quorum is not required, as the agenda items are all ministerial acts. III. ELECTION BUSINESS A. Certification of official returns by the City Secretary City Secretary Leslie Galloway stated that there were 1,248 votes cast in the Saturday, May 5, 2018 General Election, resulting in the following: • With 628 votes, Brian Johnson is elected as Mayor (2018 -2020) (His opponent, Jan Joplin, received 614 votes.) • With 674 votes, Chris Pugh is elected as Councilmember, Place 2 (2018 -2020) (His opponent, Lary Adkins, received 509 votes.) • With 647 votes, Linda Rhodes is elected as Councilmember, Place 4 (2018 -2020) (Her opponent, Timothy Brestowski, received 524 votes.) • As a result of Proposition A (Shall Sandra Lee be removed from office ?), Lee shall retain her position as Councilmember Place 3 for the remainder of her elected term (2017- 2019). (There were 589 votes for "Yes'; and 630 votes for "No ".) • As a result of the tabulations of Proposition B (Shall Jan Joplin be removed from office ?), Joplin shall retain her position as Councilmember Place 5 for the remainder of her elected term (2017- 2019). (There were 561 votes for "Yes'; and 661 votes for "No ".) Motion To Approve recording of these official election returns in page 72 of the City of Kennedale Election Register. Action Approve, Moved By Mayor Pro Tem Joplin, Seconded By Lee. Motion passed Unanimously. B. Resolution 524, canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the general election held on May 5, 2018, for the purpose of electing the Mayor and Council Members Places 2 and 4 for the City of Kennedale and the propositions for the potential recall of Councilmembers Sandra Lee (Place 3) and Jan Joplin (Place 5) Motion To Approve Resolution 524, canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the general election held on May 5, 2018. Oath of Office for Brian Johnson, Mayor, 2018 -2020 term D. Oath of Office for Chris Pugh, City Council Place 2, 2018 -2020 term E. Oath of Office for Linda Rhodes, City Council Place 4, 2018 -2020 term City Secretary Leslie Galloway administered the Oaths of Office for Chris Pugh and Linda Rhodes; and EDC President Robert Mundy then administered the Oath of Office for Mayor Brian Johnson. Each will serve a two -year term from 2018 -2020. This is the first Council term for both Pugh (currently a P &Z Commissioner) and Rhodes; Johnson has served as Mayor since 2014, and has been on the Council since 2005. IV. ADJOURNMENT Mayor Johnson adjourned the meeting at 5:37 p.m. Immediately following adjournment, a reception was held at the banquet room attached to Dickey's Barbecue in TownCenter for newly elected and outgoing Councilmembers.
