Subject: Discuss and consider action needed for the demonstration garden II. Originated by: Kelly Cooper, Director of Human Resources III. Summary: This item will give the board an opportunity to discuss any additional work day schedules, supplies or material needs, etc. Wilda has suggested that we schedule a weekly work day in the garden. It had been determined that Wednesday is the best day and starting at 6:30 a.m. is a good time while the weather is hot. The start time can be adjusted as the weather cools. We might consider advertising this on our website and Facebook page to see if we can others in the community interested in helping. In addition, the board asked that we consider allocating funding for a large rock, river rock of some type to put in the corner where we have difficulty growing plants. A picture is attached, taken by Laurie Sanders. The company will deliver the rock, all we would need to do is be present for it's placement and then spread the river rock in the area around the large rock. The cost to complete this task will be no more than $500.00. If this is acceptable, we will want to complete this task before the end of September. A motion will be necessary to allocate funding for the rock. IV. Recommendation: Approve V. Subject: Discuss and consider action necessary for the Arbor Day and Trunk or Treat event October 21, 2017 II. Originated by: Kelly Cooper, Director of Human Resources III. Summary: The Arbor Day celebration is October 21, 2017 with Fellowship Academy. I still have not heard from TXU regarding the tree donation or the seedlings. If they are not willing to provide this, we can purchase and will have money in the budget to do so. The cost will be approximately $730.00 for the tree, seedlings and the rock. I will need the board to take action to approve the expenditure so the items can be ordered and paid for before the event. IV. Recommendation: Approve V. Attachments: % %60 00 Olt, \EEP ICENNEDALE BEAUTIFUL STAFF REPORT TO THE COMMISSIONERS Date: September 12, 2017 Agenda Item No: REPORTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS - A. I. Subject: Celebrate our out-going board members II. Originated by: Kelly Cooper, Director of Human Resources III. Summary: The board is sad to see to members decide to not re-apply for the next two years. Wilda Turner, has been on KKB since it's inception in 2009. She was instrumental in getting KKB off the ground and affiliated with Keep Texas Beautiful. It was Wiilda's vision that brought about the demonstration garden, and who was instrumental in the implementation of the curbside recycling program and adopt-a-spot. Wilda is our Master Gardener and we will truly be at a loss without her expertise. Thank you Wilda for your service on Keep Kennedale Beautiful and your love for this city; you will be missed. Vickie Chandler has been on KKB Since 2011. She took over the Board Secretary duties shortly thereafter and has been taking our minutes ever since. Vickie hasn't missed an event, always doing the hard work that others can't. Vickie was instrumental in coordination of activities with the High School green club and other school projects due to her connections at Delaney and Arthur. Thank you Vickie for all you have done, your commitment and loyalty to KKB has kept us going through the years. We will miss you and your service on this board. Vinita Thomas was appointed to the KKB board last year. Vinita has assisted with a variety of events this past year as well as participating in the board meetings each month. Vinita filled a vacancy with one year term, but has decided not to reapply due to the physical requirements of the board. Thank you Vinita for being a part of the board this past year. We have enjoyed getting to know you and wish you the best as you seek other service opportunities. IV. Recommendation: None V. Attachments:
