You can also have a raised or container garden as well. One(1)pot or container of each plant species suggested in the Monarch Mix. Recommended at least 1-2 milkweed plants, and a variety of other nectar producing plants representing several different species. p '" wx . Garden trowel or shovel o Mulch PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS: \' i'. 1. Divide the area to be planted into nine squares, placing each plant about _ 12"from its neighbor. 2. In the middle of each square, dig a hole roughly six(6) inches deep and wide enough to fit the plant plug. A good rule of thumb is to dig a hole , -:fi slightly larger than the container the plant came in. 3. Gently break up the roots of each plant plug and place the plants in the holes;. Fill in lightly with soil. # 4. Cover the entire monarch garden with a light layer of mulch. 5. Water your garden immediately and then water daily. 6. After a couple of weeks, water every few days. Because these plants are native, they should only need occasional watering once they are estab- lished, however Texas heat may require more. 7. Register your monarch garden at www.cityofkennedale.com so we can track and map the projects progress. Reminder: ,r Do not use pesticides or chemical fertilizers on or `' ,1 near your garden % %60 00 Olt, \EEP ICENNEDALE BEAUTIFUL STAFF REPORT TO THE COMMISSIONERS Date: March 8, 2016 Agenda Item No: REGULAR ITEMS - C. I. Subject: Discuss and approve action regarding the following events: 1. Parade 2. Butterfly Demonstration Garden 3. Don't Mess with Texas Clean-up II. Originated by: Kelly Cooper, Director of Human Resources III. Summary: This item is to give the board the opportunity to discuss and schedule dates for these and other items for the year 1. Parade 2. Butterfly Demonstration Garden 3. Don't Mess with Texas Clean-up Brickworks Parade is Saturday April 16 at 10:00 a.m. the Parade formation begins at 9:00 a.m. behind Delaney Elementary. This would be a good opportunity for the community to see advertisement about KKB in the Parade. The difficulty is several members of KKB also assist with the Brickworks Festival and the Historical walk that also takes place that morning. The Commission should consider whether to participate in the parade, who would take the lead and how KKB could enter based on the "Kennedale history" as the theme. Butterfly Demonstration Garden Work day- Wilda was going to research some additional plants to add to the garden April 2, 2016. Don't Mess with Texas clean-up is scheduled for May 14th at Sonora Park. We will complete what we had tried to do last year which was to clean-up the Bird Habitat at the back of the park. Laurie will contact the boy scouts about participating. We had also discussed using this clean-up as the opportunity to work on adding milkweed along the fence line. We will need tillers to till up the area, some kind of border to keep the mowers out. Laurie was going to see how far it would be to carry water as that may be an issue to address. Last time we decided to start earlier and provide breakfast, do we still want to ask the Critterman to come out and provide an educational opportunity? IV. Recommendation: Approve V. Subject: Discuss and Consider action to approve an additional neighborhood yard of the month program II. Originated by: Kelly Cooper, Director of Human Resources III. Summary: Laurie Sanders was approached by Brookstone Estates regarding the yard of the month program. They would also like for KKB to provide a sign for their neighborhood. The signs cost about$85.00 to $100 to purchase. We would purchase two metal signs for their neighborhood and of course it would also display the KKB logo. This may be a program that we offer to all the neighborhoods, it is a good way to get our name out there and maybe we can attach with it a request for them to notify residents of programs that KKB is having to help us market what is going on. If approved, Leslie Galloway will design the sign. I have not put this in the budget, which is the next item on the agenda for discussion. IV. Recommendation: Approve V.
