6. Arbor Day
Brickworks Parade is Saturday April 16 at 10:00 a.m. the Parade formation begins at 9:00 a.m. behind
Delaney Elementary. This would be a good opportunity for the community to see advertisement about
KKB in the Parade. The difficulty is several members of KKB also assist with the Brickworks Festival
and the Historical walk that also takes place that morning. The Commission should consider whether
to participate in the parade, who would take the lead and how KKB could enter based on the
"Kennedale history" as the theme.
Butterfly Demonstration Garden Work day- Wilda was going to research some additional plants to add
to the garden April 2, 2016.
Don't Mess with Texas clean-up is scheduled for May 14th at Sonora Park. We will complete what we
had tried to do last year which was to clean-up the Bird Habitat at the back of the park. Laurie will
contact the boy scouts about participating. We had also discussed using this clean-up as the
opportunity to work on adding milkweed along the fence line. We will need tillers to till up the area,
some kind of border to keep the mowers out. Laurie was going to see how far it would be to carry
water as that may be an issue to address.
The other events listed are up for discussion as needed. These will be discussed in greater detail, the
closer we get to the actual events.

I. Subject:
Discuss 2016 activities related to the support of monarch butterfly migration program
II. Originated by:
Kelly Cooper, Director of Human Resources
III. Summary:
In support of the Mayor's Monarch Pledge, the Board finalize plans to meet the requirements of the
program. At the November 2015 meeting we discussed various options for the program. We do have
to complete at least three of the items one of those has to be from the "Program & Demonstration
Gardens" section.
Staff has worked on the voucher program. Stegall's is on board and indicated he had 25 plant
varieties to choose from for butterfly gardens. Attached you will find a voucher and small handout to
encourage folks to list their garden on the map. In addition the Board will need to discuss how many
vouchers to make available. My initial thought is 40. The program would provide one voucher per
address which would provide a potential of 40 butterfly gardens in Kennedale.
I will need some assistance in updating the how to plant and care for your garden (see attachments).
We should consider having everything complete by our March meeting in time to purchase and plant
this spring. I will work with our Communications Coordinator about getting it in the newsletter and on
the website.
The board should discuss how to include the school district participation of Arthur, Delaney or perhaps
verify green clubs interest and assist them as well.
