REGULAR MEETING
September 3, 2013
CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM, 405 MUNICIPAL DRIVE
I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 3:30PM.
II. ROLL CALL
Present: Ashley Luu, Elias Noorzad, Emily Beck, Nadeya Patel, Morgan Biscoe
Absent: Hailey Green
III. MINUTES APPROVAL

IV. REPORTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Updates from city staff.
Staff liaison Amethyst Sloane gave a brief update on upcoming city events, including the October 19`'
`Bring It' recycling event hosted by the Keep Kennedale Beautiful Commission and the Christmas Tree
Lighting Festival which will be announced soon.
B. Updates from Councilmembers.
There were no updates from Councilmembers at this time.
V. REGULAR ITEMS
A. Election of a Chair for the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Council.
Ashley Luu announced that she was interested in being the Chair of next year's YAC, noting that her
ability to be organized and efficient would help her be an effective Chair. She also noted that the fact
that she lives in Arlington but goes to KISD would bring a new perspective to the YAC.
Motion To appoint Ashley Luu as the Chair of the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Council. Action

B. Election of a Vice-Chair for the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Council.
Elias Noorzad announced that he was interested in being the Vice Chair of next year's YAC, noting
that he would be very able to step into the Chair's shoes at any time and was excited about the
upcoming year.
Motion To appoint Elias Noorzad as the Vice Chair of the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Council.
Action Approve, Moved By Ashley Luu, Seconded By Morgan Biscoe

C. Election of a Secretary for the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Council.
Emily Beck announced that she was interested in being the Secretary of next year's YAC, noting that
while she did not want to be in charge, she wanted to be involved. She also noted that she had spent
time with last year's secretary and was familiar with the position's duties and of her ability to perform
them.
Motion To appoint Emily Beck as the Vice Chair of the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Council. Action

D. Election of a Historian for the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Council.
Nadeya Patel announced that she was interested in being the Historian of next year's YAC, noting that
the position fit very well with her experience with yearbook, photography, documentation, and website
knowledge.
Motion To appoint Nadeya Patel as the Vice Chair of the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Council.
Action Approve, Moved By Elias Noorzad, Seconded By Morgan Biscoe.

E. Discuss the development of a logo for the YAC.
Nadeya Patel and Ashley Luu both presented draft ideas for a YAC logo to the group. These ideas will
be fully developed over the next month and officially presented for a vote at October's regular meeting.
F. Discuss the August 21 st visual survey and tour of Kennedale.
The group discussed their recent driving tour of the city. Members noted that they had previously
been unaware of several sections of Kennedale, and that the tour gave them a better overall picture of
the city.
G. Discuss and approve participation in upcoming city events.
This discussion was expanded to include new ideas from the YAC. Emily Beck presented the idea of
looking into the creation of a food truck park or a food truck park event. The ideas was discussed and
Amethyst Sloane will begin conversations with appropriate city staff to figure out which opportunities
may be available.
Ashley Luu noted that she would like to see more involvement with the library, possible through the
formation of a weekend reading program or story-time with the YAC and/or volunteers. Amethyst
Sloane noted that she would check into library director Gwen Bevill's fall schedule and see where
these ideas may fit.
H. Consider setting a regular meeting date and time for the 2013/2014 YAC.
The next regular meeting of the YAC will be held on Tuesday, October 1St at 3:OOPM in City Hall.
