B. Opening Quote
The following quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. was read and discussed. "The ultimate
measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience but
where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
C. Open Issues
Item #1 on the agenda is Road Projects.
Information is brought forward, revealing that there is opposition to the roundabout.
Opposition includes a letter of opposition from Arlington citizen with concern about the
student body and their safety. The opposition feels that the majority of the student body is
unaware of how to use a roundabout and therefore, the roundabout would be a safety
hazard. A stop light is proposed. The YAC is called forward to discuss the topic as
representatives of the student body.
Nathan opens the floor for discussion on the newly received information.
YAC members mention things such as the tremendous amount of traffic in the morning
on the road, even backing up to the hill. A stop light is seen as confusing due to right on
red regulations. The stop light is also seen as dangerous due to the possibility of red light
runners.
A YAC member proposes that the council do a Public Service Announcement as a way to
enlighten the student body on how to navigate a roundabout. The PSA is mentioned as
already being planned for the Leadership Class, and therefore, would not be difficult to
execute.
The YAC lays out all options. The three options are a stop sign, a stop light, and a
roundabout.
Discussion ends.
Timothy Brestowski moves that the council keep the roundabout as the solution to the
traffic on Sublett Road /Wildcat Way intersection.
Tino Angadicheril seconds the motion.
The motion is put to a vote and the vote is unanimous. The motion carries.
More information is brought forward to the YAC, alerting them of a City Council
meeting on April 8th
The YAC discusses the meeting and agrees to attend the meeting. A YAC member
proposes that a survey of the students be done in order to present to the Kennedale City
Council. Timothy Brestowski agrees to head the survey. Fahad Ali volunteers to help
with the presentation and Nathan Degen agrees to introduce the presentation.
Fahad Ali moves that the YAC members attend the City Council meeting on April 8t' in
which three members will make a presentation. Nathan Degen will introduce the
presentation, while Timothy Brestowski will present a survey of the student body
regarding the roundabout, and Farad Ali will present the design for the roundabout.
Tino Angadicheril seconds the motion.
Nathan Degen opens the floor for discussion.
It is agreed that the presentation must have an early draft before the next YAC meeting
for the council to review before the City Council meeting.
