04.30.1980 PRB MinutesPage 2 REGULAR MEETING OF THE KENNEDALE PARK BOARD April 30, 1980 The Kennedale Park Board convened at 7:OOp.m., April 30, 1980, in the City Hall in regular session. Present at the meeting were Bob Patterson, President and members Verlin Arter and Harvey Long. Dwight Miller was council member in attendance and Mel Justice represented the staff. Mrs. Irma L. West, applicant for Center Director, was present for interview purposes. It was moved by Harvey Long, seconded by Bob Patterson that the March 18, 1980 minutes be accepted as read. Motion carried with none opposed. The Board was informed by Mel Justice that the Council had concurred in the Community Center being used by the Kennedale Nursing Home as an emergency shelter in case the necessity for such might arise and the Board was in agreement with this use. The Board interviewed Mrs. Irma L. West for the position of Center Director and after talking with Mrs. West and a discussion of the activities the Board would wish to see initiated at the Center and the park. It was moved by Verlin Arter, seconded by Harvey Long, that a recommendation be submitted to Council to accept Mrs. West as Center Director. Motion carried with none opposed. The Board entered into a discussion on the type of use which should be made of the $10,000 authorized for expenditures in the park and recreation area by the Council and it was the consensus of the Board that the following improvements should be considered for recommendation to the Council: Water fountains in the park Top for one of the previously approved tables Road into park off New Hope Parking lot by picnic area Cable to be placed around road and parking lot Bar -B -Q grills for picnic area Ping Pong tables for the Center Page 26 REGULAR MEETING APRIL 30, 1980, cont'd The staff is to get an estimate of the cost of these items and report back to the Board. The Board asked whether any word had been received on the closing of the street adjacent to the park and requested the City Attorney be contacted again concerning this closing. The staff was requested to again contact Dave Bloxom concern- ing the three picnic tables and to see if the City couldn't furnish a truck to pick the tables up for transporting to the park. The Board requested information on the status of possibly paving Village Street and was advised the County has promised to get this accomplished as soon as they can. It was moved by Harvey Long, seconded by Verlin Arter that the meeting adjourn at 8:30 P.M. Motion carried. Bob Patterson, President Frankie Luttrell, Secretary
