Present at the meeting were Bob Patterson, President, and members Irene McDavid and Harvey Long. Mel Justice was staff member in attendance. A delegation of six young people from the Kennedale High School attended the meeting as representatives of the VICA Program. It was moved by Irene McDavid, seconded by Harvey Long that the December 4, 1979 minutes be accepted as read. Motion carried with none opposed. A report on the progress of the procurement of the picnic tables from Dave Bloxom was given and the Board urged the tables be procured as soon as possible. A replacement of the Center Director was discussed and the Board agreed the proposed job description as presented should be followed and the staff should start recruiting for applicants immediately. The possibility of hiring a relative of the Council or Park Board was discussed and the Board asked the staff to obtain a ruling as soon as possible on the nepotism laws of the State. The Board reviewed the Community Center Rules and Regulations in conjunction with a recent complaint on reserving the Center six months in advance. It was the consensus of the Board that the present rules are adequate and there should be no changes made. The Board requested the staff check with the City Attorney on the closing of the street adjacent to the park and see if some action could not be taken immediately on this item. The Board asked the staff to check on a street light outside the Community Center. The delegation from the VICA Program expressed thanks to the Board for their being allowed to visit the meeting and give a report on awards won by the Kennedale VICA students in the recent District Meet. Motion made by Harvey Long, seconded by Irene McDavid that the meeting adjourn at 8 :15 P.M. Motion carried.
