01.14.1980 AB MinutesORGANIZATIONAL MEETING OF KENNEDALE AMBULANCE COMMITTEE January 14, 1980 The Kennedale Ambulance Committee convened at 12:00 noon, January 14, 1980, in the Community Center in an organizational session. Present at the meeting were Dr. William R. Harris, Chairman, George Lyon, Vice - Chairman, and Committee members Glen Long, and James Smith. Mayor Steve Radakovich was Council member present and Mel Justice was staff member present, Dr. Harris outlined the functions of the Committee and the needs to establish rules and procedures for the ambulance service to follow. After discussion of various items brought up by committee members the following policies and procedures were unanimously adopted by the committee: a. James Smith will be responsible for assignment of volunteer personnel to the ambulance functions and will be responsible to the committee only for these assignments, b. Complaints on the ambulance service will be accepted in writing only. c. Senior citizens who are certified by the City as residents will be furnished ambulance service, whether or not they are ambulance service members @ $1.00 per month, at no charge. This does not include senior citizens who are residents of an institution such as a nursing home, private hospital, etc. d. Drivers of the ambulance will not exceed prudent speed governed by road conditions as well as State laws. e. Persons who are picked up by the ambulance in an unconcious state, where there is no other person available to choose a hospital to which the unconcious person will be transported, will be taken directly to John Peter Smith Hospital. f. The liability insurance carried on the ambulance should include the committee members. g. The City is not to accept insurance papers to be com- pleted for collection of payment of fees, but to bill persons responsible for ambulance service and collect direct from such individuals. h. Citizens in the City Limits of Kennedale who are members of the Kennedale Ambulance Service will be transported to hospitals at no additional charges other than the $1.00 monthly membership fees. The maximum distance a person will be transported to a hospital will be 25 miles from the permanent location of the ambulance (Kennedale Police Department). The following sub -- committee, with responsibility indicated, were appointed, by the Chairman. Medical Advisor - Doctor Harris Care & Maintenance of Ambulance - James Smith and Glen Long Finance - Steve Radakovich and Mel Justice The chairman requested the City staff prepare a draft of an ordinance covering the operation of the ambulance and forward to committee members for consideration at a meeting of Friday, January 25, 1980 at 12:00 noon.
