MINUTES OF
KENNEDALE CITY COUNCIL
PUBLIC HEARING - OCTOBER 14, 1993
100 E. BROADWAY ST. - COMMUNITY CENTER
Mayor Abbott called the public hearing to order at 7:05 p.m.
Members present were Mayor Abbott, Mark Wright, Robert Mundy and
Tom Boone. Pete Kirkpatrick and Ron Kovach were absent.
Staff in attendance were Ted Rowe, Michael Box, Joey Highfill,
Vicki Thompson, Kathy Turner, Linda Royster and City Attorney,
Don Driver.
Mr. Wayne Winters, 215 S. Village St., representing FWT, Inc.,
made a presentation for designation of a reinvestment. zone
located in the 1200 Block of West Mansfield Highway which contains
59 acres. In addition, Mr. Winters requested a tax abatement at
100 percent for ten years for proposed improvements on 25 acres,
and stated the remaining 34 acres would be available for other
users.
Mr. Leon Swiney, 1305 Bowman Springs Road, expressed his
uncertainty towards tax abatements. Mr. Swiney feels tax payers
cannot bare the burden of abatements. Mayor Abbott stated FWT, Inc.,
would still be taxed on the land itself, not on future improvements.
No one else wished to speak for or against the reinvestment zone.
There being no further discussion, Mayor Abbott adjourned the
public hearing at 7:30 p.m.
