Motion to approve the minutes of May 14, 2013, by Vickie Chandler, second by Laurie Sanders. Motion carried. IV. Visitor /Citizens Forum — None V. Regular Items A. Discuss and consider actions necessary to participate in the "Take Care of Texas" campaign — There are available posters and bumper stickers for free to any city that enters and order. The orders are due by June 14 . These items should be distributed to help educate the local community and visitors. The board decided to order 10 posters for City Hall, the library, local schools, and some local businesses. The decision was also made to order 100 bumper stickers and to send out a message that we have some located at City Hall, the library, and at the Chamber of Commerce. These will be a first come first serve item. The goal is to keep them from becoming litter which might happen if a large quantity was ordered and distributed such as through the schools. Also, the number was kept low to keep from taking away from other cities. Motion to order by Fred Winters, second by Vickie Chandler. Motion carried. B. Discuss and take necessary action to plan for the `Bring It" event this fall — This event will include the shredder, mission store, Crud Cruiser, and electronic waste. The signs for traffic flow need to be located. Marketing material for volunteers, such as flyers for the schools, will be distributed. Marketing material for the event will specify the event is for Kennedale residents only and the location is in the city complex. This item will need to be on the list for further discussion in the July meeting. C. Discuss and consider Christmas tree recycling and yard decoration program — (Christmas tree recycling). The board will need to rent a mulching machine. City works will most likely do the mulching. A storage location for the trees and mulch needs to be defined. Possible storage location may be the back corner of the city complex parking lot. It was suggested that the city uses the mulch to beautify the city by using it in the gardens and parks. Also, it was suggested we should open the mulch pile to the community to come and take as needed. Concerns were people would take more than their share or take without contributing. This topic needs to be on the list for discussion in the July meeting. (Yard decoration) The idea is to get the community involved in competing in the best decorated yard for Christmas decorations. It was suggested that a committee should be constructed to be judges. i.e. Mayor, someone from KKB, Parks Board, and etc. The community would need to have decorations up by December 7"' and the winner could receive a gift card. Marketing could involve a write -up in the city newsletter and an announcement at the tree lighting and other various events. The residents will need to be required to register. This topic needs to be on the list for discussion in the July meeting. Vi. Reports /Announcements A. Governor's award application — We received the award. An attachment was provided in our packet with details. B. Texas Youth & Educator Award — Announcement provided. Congratulations to Krystin Sanders.
