IV. Visitor /Citizens Forum
No visitors present.
V. Regular Items
A. Discuss and approve Sandy Valentino as the KISD Liaison.
Because Sandy is not a Kennedale Resident we can ask her to be our KISD Liaison and this
will help us partner with her school events.
Motion to approve Sandy Valentino as the KISD Liaison to KKB made by Vicki Chandler,
second by LaCresha Sanders. Motion approved unanimously.
B. Discuss and review the recycling event scheduled for October 20, 2012.
Gene Snyder, Vice Presentation of Allied Star presented information regarding how his
company could support the October 20 event, by recycling electronics. Discussion occurred
regarding how to market the event, how much space was needed, cost associated with the
items collected, volunteers needed. Allied Star does not clean hard drives and this is not a
fund raiser for KKB.
KKB also discussed other types of recycling such as document shredding, clothes collection,
and crude cruiser. Michael is going to contact the business on 287 in Mansfield regarding
possibly participating /supporting our event or provide flyer for us to send residents to them
with these items.
Note that citizens who bring items will not be paid for them.
Schools already take cell phones and printer cartridges. Perhaps consider promoting that
we would collect cell phones and printer cartridges for the school.
Vicki will talk with Methodist Church about setting up for cloths collection with our event.
Rachel will contact document shredding companies.
C. Discuss and consider the creation of a butterfly garden as the next beautification project for
KKB.
Found the spot wanted inside the fence across from the 911 Memorial. Start small 3 x 6
oval, wouldn't interfere with Art in the Park, gets sun and water from sprinklers. Slowly grow it
along fence line. Reviewed example plans provided by Stephen Brim. Found on the website.
Need design, will need Park Board approval, then to City Council for approval. Rachel will
check into Scouts designing the garden. Work a schedule and plant in spring 2013. Include
tree in the butterfly garden. Decided to put butterfly garden in next year's budget. Ask Wilda
to provide plants needed for garden.
D. Discuss and review the Keep Kennedale Beautiful Strategic Plan
No Action. Table until next meeting
E. Review and discuss other possible project items
Community Garden — Partner with KISD and the Delaney community garden. Too much for
this group to take on, need a lot of volunteers.
Farmer's Market — Discussed with City Manager what does city want. Research indicates
farmer's market is their own entity. Do we have interest from farmers? Mansfield market on
287 didn't do well; the one in town is very successful. Mansfield has one once a month;
perhaps go take a look at it.
Could grow into a taste of Kennedale type event. Music, free samples, etc. almost a little
street market type event. Include some type of application process. Start with talking to
someone who is on a board to help us.
VI. Reports /Announcements
Reminder to those whose term expires, need to complete application on line by August 1,
2012.
VII. Adjourned 7:07 p.m.
