Members Present: Michael Chandler Vickie Chandler NaMicha Williams Rachel Rogers Wilda Turner HR Director, Kelly Cooper Guest, Paula Chanell, Representative of the Audubon Society III. Regular Items A. Motion to approve the minutes of July 19, 2011 KKB Meeting by NaMicha Williams, second by Rachel Rogers. Motion approved. B. Bird Sanctuary Clean -up 1. Paula Chanell discussed plants for food and areas to leave unchanged as natural habitats for the birds. She had building plans for bird houses that would attract the various species that live in this area. She and Rachel Roberts, City Planner, will explore the sanctuary areas. The Boy Scouts will be asked to build the bird houses with material provided by KKB. Michael will research and decide how much wood is needed. The bird houses may be ready to erect at the October 8, 2011 clean -up. Grids will be established for a more organized clean -up. Each grid will have a team responsible for it as well as a team leader. Students from the National Honor Society, YAK and other students will be enlisted to accomplish the clean -up in Sonora Park and the old station house area. Drinks and hot dogs will be provided. We hope to have a Park Ranger available. Flyers advertising the habitat clean -up will be ready for the KKB September meeting. 2. The To Do List will be kept active and be shown on each monthly Agenda so that we won't forget previously approved activities. 3. Michael Chandler advised that the Park Board is reviewing the Staff Report prepared by Kelly Cooper. Assistance in cleaning the habitats will probably be on an individual basis and not a Park Board activity. They are interested in our plans and will get updates from Michael at their monthly meetings. C. NaMicha is continuing to work on the KKB Face Book page. D. Fall Clean -up and beautification project 1. City staff is researching Kennedale Parkway and will provide a report to the City Manager. Once accomplished they will begin to assess the problems and resolutions. KKB can get involved at that time. Kelly will continue to keep us updated. 2. Apache and FWT are included in D. 1. discussion. E. North Texas Corporate Recycling Association Michael researched and found that we must be a member ($75.00) to get information. He will continue to pursue, and ask for help from Lacretia Sanders. F. Updates on items 1. thru 5. will be discussed at a later time when we are ready to take on other projects. IV. Citizen Comments - None V. Staff Announcements /Reports G. Required Training for certification with KTB is 2 hours per year per group. Michael plans to attend the session in Arlington on October 20, 2011 from 9am - 4pm. Crud Cruiser will be available for residents to dispose of batteries, paint and other hazardous material in the spring. We will assist in this project.
