KENNEDALE CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 13, 1996 - PUBLIC HEARING

Mayor Mundy called the public hearing to order at 7:31 p.m.
Members present were Mayor Mundy, Councilmen Wright, Barrett, Boone and
.Kovach.
Staff present were Ted Rowe, Kathy Turner, Vicki Thompson, Michael Box,
and legal counsel, Wayne K. Olson.
Public Hearing - To receive citizens comments regarding a proposed
Special Election for establishing a Section 4B Economic Development
Sales Tax.
To start the public hearing off, Mr. Rowe, City Administrator gave a
brief background history of the economic development sales tax, as well
as the guidelines to hold the special election. In addition, Mr. Rowe
highlighted on what type of projects could be funded with the additional
tax.
Next, Mayor Mundy opened the public hearing up for citizens comments.
Mr. John Berry, 1005 Oak Ridge Court, Kennedale, Texas. President of
the Kennedale Chamber of Commerce, addressed Council with a resolution
from the chamber petitioning the city for a 4B economic development
sales tax election. Furthermore, Mr. Berry presented letters of support
for the election from local business owners, State Representative
Brimer, Kennedale Independent School District, and a local citizen.
Ms. Sandra Bitenc, 5307 Annondale Court, Arlington, Texas. Ms. Bitenc,
representing the Kennedale Independent School District Board of Trustees
presented council with a resolution endorsing the Kennedale Chamber of
Commerce Economic Development Plan along with petitioning the city
council for a special election to authorize a Paragraph 4B Economic
Development Sales Tax for the City of Kennedale. Next, Ms. Bitenc said
that the City is going to develop which means students for KISD. In
turn, she requested everyone to encourage quality business development
within the city to help relieve the tax burden on homeowners, and to
ensure a better quality of life for the citizens of Kennedale.
Mr. Rusty Evans, 4705 Valleycrest Drive, Arlington, Texas. Mr. Evans,
Past President of the Kennedale Chamber of Commerce and member of the
Economic Development Committee spoke in favor of the additional sales
tax, and felt that the sales tax would be an enticement tool to lure
businesses to Kennedale.
There being no further discussion, Mayor Mundy adjourned the public
hearing at 7:19 p.m.
