RON ROUDON LTR TO COUNCILKennedale City Council Meeting
February 9, 2012
Honorable City Council Members,
My name is Ron Roudon and I have lived in
Kennedale for 29 years. My extended family has lived here
since 1949 and I have been a homeowner here since 1983.1
am a past member of the K.I.S.D school board, I served
during the time the board planned for Patterson Elementary
school and the new Kennedale High School. I have a
vested interest in the community.
My reason for approaching the council tonight is to
discuss the accessibility of neighborhood streets to the new
Little Rd. I am a property owner on Shady Oaks Dr.(nine
homes and two lots in which homes may be built) which is
located on the east side of Little Rd. I was not aware, until
about three weeks ago, that there would be no turning lane
for Shady Oaks Dr. when approaching from the north. I
assumed, as did the other residents on the block, that Shady
Oaks Dr. would have a turning lane. The assumption was
that logically, all streets would have a north and south
entrance /exit to Little Rd. Because there is no opening for a
turning lane, the residents of Shady Oaks Dr. can't turn left
to drive south on Little Rd. This limits the access to
Kennedale=Sublett Rd and travel to the new Town Center
area. Even though there is access to Little Rd. from
Harrison St., the residents must backtrack to a small street
call Butterfly Ln.. The intersection of Butterfly Ln. and
Harrison St. is very dangerous. Harrison St. is highly
traveled, because it is one of only two entrances to the
Shady Creek East addition. Where Butterfly Ln. and
Harrison St. intersect, a hill obstructs a drivers line of sight.
Any driver coming over the hill on Harrison St. can't fully
see the corner at Butterfly Ln.. The traffic from Butterfly
Ln. can't see the approaching traffic over the hill. To
complicate the problem, there are always parked cars to
block the drivers view. This is dangerous. That's why we
are asking for an opening to turn south from Shady Oaks
Dr.
In summation, the residence of Shady Oaks Dr. and I,
respectfully request, that you as a council, rectify this
mistake while it can still be corrected. I don't know if it is
by design or coincidence, but the only two streets that don't
have a turning lane are Woodland Ct. on the west side and
Shady Oaks Dr. on the east. These are the only streets that
don't open into an affluent area. For example, Greenfield
Ct., which is the newest development on the east side of
Little Rd, has a turning lane and the backyards on Shady
Oaks Dr. backup to the more affluent backyards of
Greenfield Ct.. Shady Oaks Dr. was developed 60 years
before Greenfield Ct. existed. Harrison has a turning land
because it provides access to the Shady Creek East
development.
Thank you for you time and attention to this matter.
Respectfully,
Ron Roudon. (817- 478 -3939)
and the residents of Shady Oaks Dr.
