02/05/1997, Workshop Meeting Minutes2281
MINUTES OF
KENNNEDALE CITY COUNCIL
WORKSHOP - FEBRUARY 5, 1997
100 E. BROADWAY ST. - COMMUNITY CENTER
Mayor Mundy called the workshop to order at 6:46 p.m.
Present were Mayor Mundy, Councilmember's Wright, McCraw, Barrett and
Kovach. Councilmember Boone was absent.
Staff present were Ted Rowe and Kathy Turner.
ITEM NO. 1 - Interview of applicants for Appointment to the Home Rule
Charter Commission.
Mayor Mundy briefly discussed the pros and cons of going to a Home Rule
Charter to each applicant versus being a Type A General Law City.
Next, Council proceeded with a series of questions for each applicant to
seek their input as to how they could assist with the Home Rule Charter
development. Areas of interest brought forth from the applicants were
the need to educate the citizens about the importance of a Home Rule
Charter, and the need to control the growth of the city in a quality
manner and still maintain the heritage of a small town. Also discussed
was the size of the commission. Many of the applicants felt that a
larger group would be more beneficial as opposed to a smaller group so
they could receive a wide variety of input which would benefit the city
as a whole. Overall, all of the applicants expressed their desire for
quality growth and to maintain that growth in a positive manner.
ITEM NO. 2 - General Discussion.
Council discussed the number of applicants that should be appointed to
the board and it was agreed upon to appoint all 15 members at the
February 13, 1997 city council meeting. Mayor Mundy and Councilmember
Barrett also agreed to assist with the development of the Home Rule
Charter.
There being no further discussion, Mayor Mundy adjourned the meeting at
9:22 p.m.
