01/29/1997, Workshop Meeting Minutes2280
MINUTES OF
KENNEDALE CITY COUNCIL
WORKSHOP - JANUARY 29, 1997
100 E. BROADWAY ST. - COMMUNITY CENTER
Mayor Mundy called the workshop to order at 6:46 p.m.
Present were Mayor Mundy, Councilmember's Wright, McCraw, Barrett and
Boone. Councilmember Kovach arrived at 7:13 p.m.
Staff present were Ted Rowe and Kathy Turner.
ITEM NO. 1 - Interview of applicants for Appointment to the Home Rule
Charter Commission.
Mayor Mundy briefly discussed the pros and cons of going to a Home Rule
Charter to each applicant versus being a Type A General Law City.
Next, Council proceeded with a series of questions for each applicant to
seek their input as to how they could assist with the Home Rule Charter
development. Areas of interest brought out by the applicants were to
educate the citizens about the advantages/disadvantages of a Home Rule
Charter by holding public forums for citizen input, advertise, making
personal telephone calls, and visit with homeowner associations. Also
discussed was the size of the commission. Many felt a smaller group
would be beneficial with less opposition, and some felt that a larger
group would be better to offset the absenteeism. In closing, all of the
applicants felt that the need for a Home Rule Charter would benefit and
protect the City of Kennedale in a more positive manner.
ITEM NO. 2 - General Discussion.
It was the consensus of Council to interview all of the applicants and
to start the February 5th meeting at 6:45 p.m.
There being no further discussion, Mayor Mundy adjourned the workshop at
9:07 p.m.
