We reviewed the by -laws Kelly Cooper had prepared. One correction in Article II, capitalize "city" and
one correction in Article III, last sentence, to read "The board shall submit to the City Council the
objectives for which Keep Kennedale Beautiful is organized ".
Wayne Wooten made the motion to accept the bylaws with noted changes. Wilda Turner seconded the
motion. Motion carried.
The City Clean -Up was discussed noting the date will be 5/21/2011.
We will participate in Art in the Park. Wayne Wooten has arranged for us to have a booth at no charge.
( We plan to have some free give -aways such as bags with Keep Kennedale Beautiful printed on them
and/or pens and pencils.
Art in the Park and the City Clean -Up will be projects for the KKB Committee. These two projects will
help us for qualify for KTB certification.
A survey regarding recycling will be sent with the April water bill. Further discussion on recycling will
follow the survey results.

We discussed the Art Theme for our booth for Art in the Park. Suzanna will arrange for a banner and
email the sample to each of us. The price is expected to be around $50.00 - $60.00.
Fliers, printed on yellow paper with black lettering, will be prepared with information regarding KKB
for handouts.
We will also be purchasing 300 pens and pencils, for about $ .29 each, with Keep Kennedale Beautiful
printed on them for handouts/advertising. Kelly will be ordering them. We decided the paper /canvas
bags were to expensive for us to giveaway at this time.
Stegall's Nursery has donated 25 live oak trees for us to use as a means of collecting donations. A
starting donation of at least $30.00 was the amount agreed upon. We will not display the trees until
Saturday, April 9, and then will continue until the supplies are exhausted.
Scheduling for Art in the Park:
Set -up begins on Friday, April 8 from 1 — 3 pm
Suzanna will provide an awning.
The table will be provided by the City.
Wayne will bring the trees with additional trucks and trailers available, if needed, from Mike,
Suzanna and Wilda.
On Saturday morning, April 9, we all agreed to be at the park by at least 9:00 am, working 2 - 4
hour shifts.
The booth must remain open until 8:00 pm.
On Sunday, April 10, Wilda will open the booth at 12:00 noon but will be there by 11:30 am.
The booth must remain open until 4:00 pm.
Items to bring: Water, snacks, personal chair, trash bag, paper weights, cameras (Mike's wife
will bring her camera to help us).
The April KKB meeting will be on April 5, 2011, to discuss any last minute details for Art in the Park.
Planting assistance for Apache Wrecking was discussed. Continued upkeep for large plantings could be
difficult to maintain. Kelly will visit with the Manager to better understand their desires
The KKB logo still needs to be completed. Kelly will email her "trees" to Mike and he will compile
some designs and send to each of us for review.
Kelly prepared a Budget 2011 and a list of Organizations for submission to Keep Texas Beautiful.
We decided to ask residents to be a Friend of KKB instead of asking them to be volunteers.
We will ask for their names, phone numbers and email addresses. In the future we will send out a "Call
to Action" notice. The anticipation is that residents will not resist being a "Friend of KKB" as they
might if asked to be a volunteer. Stickers reading "Friend of KKB" will be made by the City to be
distributed at Art in the Park
Suzanna announced she will not be continuing her Place 3 position with KKB. She will attempt to find
a likely candidate to fill Place 3 and assured the Board she will remain a Friend of KKB and will assist
us whenever she can. She is the one to thank for initiating KKB. We wish her continued success in her
current business as well as success in her new endeavor.
Suzanna, we will miss your energy, knowledge and personality.

Tree Planting Tips
Tips for successful tree planting:
2.

A

Ensure you know the full grown height and width
of tree to ensure proper planting placement.
Plan for its full grown size so that it will not grow
into other trees, structures, and /or power lines.
Dig the hole two -three times wide as the con-
tainer and no deeper than the root ball.
Remove from pot or wiring or cloth and loosen
root ball with fingers and or cut vertically with a
knife if roots are tightly bound together or tightly
circling themselves.
Gently place tree and root ball into hole.
Ensure the root flare (where the trunk enters the
soil and you can just start to see it flare wider
and roots ap-
pear) is not bur-
ied. It needs to ., _ I'.wt,=
be at the soil line + s z
or just above it.
When back filling
the hole, use the
same soil you
removed (so do
not add compost,
mulch, or other amendments... you want the
roots to grow far away from the tree in order for
them to anchor the tree, and they will not if they
enjoy the amended soil right by the root ball and
will tend to just grow in circles and girdle the
tree.)
Build a 4" tall berm around the tree just below
the longest lateral branch (this will ease in wa-
tering). Mulch on top of soil ball and berm so
water doesn't evaporate too quickly.
Hand water (filling berm) one a daily and /or
weekly basis dependent upon temperature.
Sprinkler systems will not be enough water for a
new tree or plant! Soil test by inserting finger 2-
3" into ground and if dry, water. Hand watering
is best for the first full year of the tree's life.
