- Michelle Torres led an aroused
Kennedale girls' basketball team toy
a'68 -57 victory over Cedar Hill Feb.
10 'as the Wildcats finished the year
on winning note.
The hot- shooting Torres, in her
last game as a Kennedale Wildcat,
hit 30 points and 16 of 19 free
throws in the Kennedale win. Carla
Hodges was the second- highest
scorer with 18 points.
Ali the girls were up for this
one," said Coach Nancy Lamberth.
"They wanted it and played ex-
tremely well. They finally realized
what I was telling them was true."
What she had been telling them,
she added, was that they had the
talent to win if they would only put
the effort behind it. That they did,
hitting a remarkable 26 points from
the free throw line to clinch the
game.
The win over Cedar Hill followed a
victory earlier in the week against
Red Oak at Red Oak. The Wildcats
took the game to the Hawks and
came out ahead at the end, 53 -51.
Torres once again led Wildcat
scorers with 18 points, 10 of which
were from the, free throw line.
Janice Arter followed with, 9 points.
Lamberth attributed the high num-
ber of foul shots that Torres took to
the senior's ball- handling ability.
"She's such a good ball - handler
that when we face an aggressive
defense, like Red Oak, it's a
challenge for them to take the ball
from her," she said.
The varsity team finished with a
9 -15 overall record and a 3 -7 district
mark. Torres was the leading scorer
for the team with a 12.9 points per
game average. Carla Hodges ended
